In 2020 KTM redesigned the EXC frames, and in 2024 the two-strokes got a new frame and TBI injection. That is why SP01 covers model years 2017–2019, and the TBI two-strokes from 2024 have SP04 (aluminium) and SP08 (8 mm HDPE). A lighter plate for the same bikes is SP12 in 6 mm HDPE, and for Husqvarna and GasGas with a linkage guard there is SP13.

The plate covers the engine cases, starter motor, covers, water pump and the lower frame rails up to the footpeg mounts from underneath. Without a guard, those parts take the hits on rocks, roots and logs. A cracked case or cover means an oil leak and usually the end of the ride, and replacing an engine case means splitting the engine.

The stiff sheet spreads the force of an impact across the whole plate and its mounting points on the frame, so a rock does not hit the case at a single point.

PA11 is the Polish designation for the AlMg3 alloy (EN AW-5754), aluminium with about 3% magnesium. It resists corrosion even in salt water, which is why boats are built from it. We bend the plate on a press brake and TIG-weld it on both sides. After welding we clean and polish it.

Aluminium copes with sharp rock edges better than plastic, and a 4 mm sheet is thinner than an HDPE plate, so it leaves more ground clearance. If you prefer less weight, the SP12 in 6 mm HDPE for the same bikes weighs 0.71 kg, against 0.86 kg for this plate.

The kit includes bolts and washers. You bolt the plate to the frame at four factory points with no drilling, so an impact goes into the frame and not through the bolts into the engine cases. You can drain the oil without removing the plate, and the bike with the plate fitted still sits on a stand. SP11 works with clutch and ignition cover guards and with the pipe guards for these model years: PG06 and PG11 for the stock exhaust, PG08 for FMF and PG19 for OXA.

We design every plate from a 3D scan of the specific bike and cut it on CNC machines in Katowice, Poland. Professional riders test every new model before it goes on sale.
