Frequently asked questions
Fitting without drilling, TBI or TPI, aluminium or HDPE, shipping costs and payment methods - straight answers to the questions we get before a purchase.
Pick brand, model and year in the fitment selector - the catalogue then shows only parts for that bike. The motorcycle is remembered, so you do not set it again on your next visit. Every product also lists all matching models and years.
The model year counts, not the year you bought or registered the bike. A bike bought in 2024 can be a 2023 model. Choose brand, model and year in the “Your bike” selector, and the catalogue shows the matching products. If in doubt, write to us: contact@artafon.com.
Yes. We keep the range of years and models in every product title and description up to date. When a manufacturer launches a new generation of a bike, we make a separate product for it instead of stretching the range of the old one. So “2024–2027” in a product name means exactly the years we have matched and checked the product for.
The guards fit KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Beta, Sherco, Rieju, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Husaberg and BMW. The range depends on the brand: we make skid plates for KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Beta, Rieju and BMW, radiator guards also for Sherco, Yamaha and Husaberg, and fan kits for most brands, including a universal kit for Honda and Kawasaki.
SP is a skid plate, RG radiator guards, PG a pipe guard (sometimes together with a skid plate), DG a brake disc guard and FP footpegs. The letter F marks the version for a bike with a fan fitted, the letter H the version for Husqvarna and GasGas with a linkage guard, and the letter X an enlarged or reinforced version. HX combines both. SX in a code means the KTM SX and Husqvarna TX motocross models.
Yes. For KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas 2024–2027 we make skid plates for two-strokes and four-strokes, radiator guards (with and without fan), pipe guards, a TPS guard for TBI, a TBI fan kit and footpegs. We also have products for Beta 2024–2026 and for the Rieju MR Pro 300i 2026.
Usually yes - a bike often runs several years without design changes, so our guards list a range of years rather than a single one. That list on the product decides. One catch: KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas two-strokes from 2024 on use TBI injection, while 2018–2023 use TPI - TBI parts do not fit TPI.
No. In 2024 KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas introduced a new generation of design, and the two-strokes got TBI injection instead of TPI. Skid plates, radiator guards, pipe guards, TPS guards and fan kits for 2024–2027 are therefore separate products. Parts for 2023 and earlier do not fit them. The exception is the brake disc guards (front and rear), which cover a wide range of years.
It depends on the product. We split radiator guards and pipe guards into 2017–2019 and 2020–2023, because the frames and the radiator position changed in 2020. HDPE plates and aluminium plates for four-strokes cover the whole 2017–2023 range in one product. Aluminium plates for two-strokes come in two versions: up to 2019 (SP01) and from 2020 (SP11). The range of years is in the product title and in the list of matching models.
In 2020 KTM redesigned the EXC frames and lowered the radiators, so we split radiator guards and pipe guards into 2017–2019 and 2020–2023. In 2024 the two-strokes got a new frame, a new subframe and TBI injection instead of TPI. Husqvarna and GasGas use the same platform, so for 2024–2027 we have a full set of new products. Check the model year of your bike before you buy.
TPI (Transfer Port Injection) injects fuel into the transfer ports of the cylinder, and TBI (Throttle Body Injection) injects it in the throttle body. KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas used TPI on enduro two-strokes in 2018–2023, and from model year 2024 they use TBI. For guards this means a new generation of products: TPS guards, radiator guards, pipe guards and fan kits for TPI do not fit TBI, and the other way round. We do not judge which injection is better for riding.
The simplest way is the model year: KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas enduro two-strokes from 2018–2023 have TPI, and from 2024 they have TBI. Where the injection matters, we state TPI or TBI in the product title or description. If you are unsure, check the bike's documentation.
Yes. We make skid plates separately for two-strokes and four-strokes, because the engines differ. Pipe guards are for two-strokes only, because only they have an expansion chamber. Some products are shared because their shape does not depend on the engine: the 2024–2027 radiator guards and the fan kits list 2T and 4T in the title.
Since 2021 they are versions of one enduro bike on the same platform: KTM EXC, Husqvarna TE (two-stroke) and FE (four-stroke), and GasGas EC. They differ in several ways, including the rear suspension: KTM has the PDS system, Husqvarna and GasGas have a linkage. The GasGas EC from 2018–2020 is an earlier, separate design and has its own guards.
Often yes. KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas share one platform, so many of our products list all three brands. The rear suspension is what sets them apart: the KTM EXC has no linkage, while Husqvarna and GasGas do. That is why we make “and linkage guard” plates for Husqvarna 2017–2023, GasGas 2021–2023 and two-strokes 2024–2026. For four-strokes 2024–2027 we offer one plate (SP18 and SP19) for all three brands. Check the model list on the product page.
The linkage (prolink) is the suspension lever under the swingarm. A plate “and linkage guard” has an extension that covers the swingarm link and stops the bike from hanging up on obstacles. The KTM EXC and XC-W have PDS rear shock, no linkage, so a standard skid plate is enough. For Husqvarna and GasGas we make “and linkage guard” versions (SP13, SP14 and, from 2024 for two-strokes, SP16). For four-strokes 2024–2027 we offer one plate (SP18 and SP19) for KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas, with no separate “and linkage guard” version.
It fits, but it does not cover the linkage. The SP12 (two-stroke) and SP15 (four-stroke) plates for 2023 and earlier list KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas. If you ride rocks and logs on a Husqvarna or GasGas, choose the “and linkage guard” version (SP16 for two-strokes 2024–2026).
Do not assume so. The EXC and XC-W share the same rear suspension with no linkage. The KTM SX and Husqvarna TX motocross models have a linkage layout, so for 250/350 four-strokes we make a separate plate (SP02 SX). Check XC models separately: the PG02 pipe guard, for example, states that it does not fit the KTM 250/300 XC 2019. The model list on the product page decides.
Some do. PG03 (skid plate and pipe guard) and RG07 (radiator guards) are the same products for the GasGas EC 250/300 2T 2018–2020 and the Rieju MR2 250/300 2021–2025. PG03 fits only an OEM pipe with no markings, and RG07 does not fit with a factory-fitted fan. The Rieju MR Pro 300i 2026 has its own products: SP17, RG21 and PG18.
No. The RR and the Xtrainer are different designs. The SP06 plate is for the RR and does not fit the Xtrainer, and the SP22 plate is for the Xtrainer and does not fit the RR. Radiator guards and pipe guards also come in separate versions (for the Xtrainer: RG14, RG22 and PG12).
The SP06 plate (8 mm HDPE, with linkage guard) fits the Beta RR 2T 250/300 2013–2026. We split the RR radiator guards into 2013–2019, 2020–2023 and 2024–2026. For the Xtrainer we make separate products.
Not always. For the EXC and TE 150 TBI (2024–2027) we make a separate SP09 skid plate and a separate PG16 pipe guard, and for the 150 TPI 2020–2023 the PG09 pipe guard. Choose products that list the 150 model in the description.
PA11 / AlMg3 aluminium 4 mm is stiff, resistant to corrosion and abrasion, and holds its shape. Polyethylene (HDPE) 6 or 8 mm is lighter, damps impacts and springs back instead of passing energy to the engine. We never score or weld 8 mm HDPE plates; we heat-bend them in one piece, so they have no weakened spots.
More about the technologyBent. We heat-bend 8 mm polyethylene (HDPE) plates on a press brake in one piece from a single sheet, with no welding and no cuts. Why it matters: when polyethylene is welded, original material is lost at the weld, so the joint is weaker than the rest of the plate and more prone to cracking and chipping off. A plate bent from one sheet keeps all of its material. We TIG weld aluminium and steel.
More about the technologyStart with the parts you hit from below and from the side: the skid plate and the radiator guards. On a two-stroke, add a pipe guard and a TPS sensor guard. The rear brake disc guard and stronger footpegs are the next step. Match everything to the model and year, because guards differ between generations.
The plate protects the engine, the starter and the covers, and on some models the frame too. The “and linkage guard” version also covers the swingarm link. Riding over rocks, roots and logs without a plate ends in hits on these parts. You can choose 4 mm aluminium or 6 or 8 mm polyethylene (HDPE), depending on the model.
More about the technologyIn most cases you do not choose. The thickness depends on the model: older models have 6 mm HDPE, newer ones 8 mm, and older models move to the thicker version over time. The thickness is in the product name.
All our skid plates have a mud drain hole at the lowest point and a lip at the top that keeps mud and stones from getting between the engine and the plate. The shape of each guard is designed so that it does not collect mud and stones.
A correctly fitted plate, aluminium or HDPE, makes no noise. Noise appears when the bolts or brackets work loose, so tighten them as the instructions say and use the full set of fixings from the kit. Polyethylene also absorbs impacts.
The plate covers the underside of the engine. The radiators sit on the sides of the bike, and the plate does not cover them.
It depends on the terrain and your riding style. Our plates are made from a 3D scan of the specific bike, so they sit tight against the frame and engine, and the kit includes all bolts and brackets. For riding in rocks, roots and on logs, choose a 4 mm aluminium plate or a 6 or 8 mm polyethylene (HDPE) plate matched to your model.
The pipe guard works together with a skid plate - ours in aluminium or HDPE, or a plastic one (KTM Six Days, OEM, Acerbis) - and with a carbon guard. On TBI bikes from 2024 to 2027, however, other manufacturers' plates need holes drilled and factory plates need larger cut-outs (see the PG10 and PG15 descriptions). Each guard fits only the straight, undamaged pipe it is made for: OEM, FMF, OXA or Fresco.
The pipe (expansion chamber) is the wide part of a two-stroke exhaust under the engine, and a rock or a log can dent it. A guard made from stainless rod (304 steel, usually 8 mm, 10 mm in reinforced versions) or from 4 mm aluminium protects it from denting. The shape of the guard is designed so that it does not collect mud and stones, and you can clean the exhaust and the underside of the engine easily.
No. A guard fits only the pipe it is made for. We make separate guards for the OEM pipe (new, undamaged), FMF (Gnarly and Fatty), OXA and Fresco. The OEM guard does not fit FMF, DEP or Fresco, and the other way round. Each manufacturer designs its pipe differently, and the factory pipe also changed with the new motorcycle generations in 2020 and 2024, so the guards are not interchangeable. Choose the product with the name of your exhaust in the title or description.
The guards are made for a new, undamaged pipe. If the pipe is dented or bent out of line, the guard may not seat properly.
The X version is enlarged or reinforced compared with the standard one, depending on the guard. X versions of the rod guards are enlarged: for example, PG07 X for the Beta RR has four fixing points instead of three, and PG10 X for KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas 2024–2027 has five instead of four. PG05 X (skid plate and pipe guard) is reinforced with an extra stainless steel spider. The HX version adds the linkage guard for Husqvarna and GasGas.
With our skid plate you fit the pipe guard with no modifications. The PG07 and PG12 descriptions (Beta RR and Xtrainer) state that with another manufacturer's plate you need to drill two holes for the lower mounting bolts.
With our skid plates you fit the PG10, PG15 or PG16 guard with no modifications. The descriptions of these guards state that with another manufacturer's plate (Acerbis, AXP, Crosspro) you need to drill two holes for the lower mounting bolts, and a factory KTM, Husqvarna or GasGas plate needs larger cut-outs.
Yes. For the KTM 250/300 TBI 2024–2027 we have a set: radiator guards (RG17 F), a pipe guard (PG10) and a skid plate (SP04). For the GasGas EC 2018–2020 and Rieju MR2 2021–2025, the PG03 is one guard for both engine and pipe.
A 4 mm aluminium guard protects the radiators from bending and from side impacts, and the full RG17 guards also from the front. Radiators are fairly easy to bend or damage. If you ride in rocks and you fall now and then, radiator guards are essential.
RG17 is a guard with a grille at the front and protects the radiators from the front and the side. RG18 is an open frame of bars and protects the radiators from the side. RG03 is an external reinforcement that you fit without draining the coolant. RG15 is milled aluminium with enlarged mounting seats and a large mud drain hole, and it fits with a fan fitted. RG17 and RG18 come in versions without fan and with fan (F).
Check whether a fan is fitted between the radiators. If you have a factory OEM fan, choose the version with the letter F (for example RG17 F, RG18 F). In the F version you move the factory fan onto the mount from the kit. Without a fan, choose the version without F. The RG07 guards (Rieju MR2, GasGas EC 2018–2020) do not fit with a factory fan, and the Xtrainer RG22 guards do.
No. The guards mount on factory points - no drilling, bending or welding. All bolts, washers, nuts, spacers and brackets come in the kit, so you buy nothing separately. Fitting instructions are on the site as PDFs.
Fitting instructionsFor the RG17, RG18 and the older RG09 and RG10: yes. You drain the coolant, remove the seat, the side plastics and the radiators, then reassemble everything with the guards. You fit the RG03 without draining the coolant. Fitting instructions with drawings come with the products.
Fitting instructionsNo. Model-specific kits come with a cable ending in the bike’s original connector, so nothing gets cut. The universal kit has its own thermal switch, fuse and wiring, and the fan switches on by itself. With the universal one, just check there is about 7 cm between radiator and tank.
If your model is on the list, take the model-specific kit. It includes a SPAL fan, a radiator bracket, a cable with the bike’s original connector, a relay, and bolts and rivets, and fitting needs no cutting of hoses or the loom. Choose the universal kit for models with no dedicated kit: it has its own thermal switch, fuse and wiring, and the fan switches on automatically. The bike must be liquid-cooled, and you need about 7 cm of space between the radiator and the tank.
No. The kit for 2017–2023 (TPI two-strokes and four-strokes) and the kit for 2024–2027 (TBI 2T and 4T) are two different products. The TBI kit description states that it does not fit TPI. Both have a cable with the original KTM connector, so you do not cut the loom.
The universal kit has a thermal switch and turns the fan on automatically when the coolant passes the set temperature. Model-specific kits plug into the bike’s original connector.
Not necessarily. The fan does not run all the time: in the universal kit a thermal switch turns it on once the coolant passes the set temperature, and in model-specific kits the bike turns it on through the original connector. On a cold engine the fan stays off, as it should. If it does not start on a hot engine, check in turn: that the plug is pushed in fully, that the relay from the kit is seated properly, and that the kit matches your model year and injection (TPI or TBI).
For the fan kit with relay for KTM and Husqvarna 2017–2018 (TPI 2T and 4T) we have an installation video and a PDF guide. You will find them under Instructions. Guides for other kits are being added over time.
Fitting guidesYes. For KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas 2024–2027 we make radiator guards together with a fan in the “Fan set” versions (RG17 and RG18). Similar sets exist for older years and for Beta. You can also buy the guards and the fan separately.
We make model-specific kits for KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Beta, Sherco, Husaberg and Yamaha. The universal kit fits KTM, Husqvarna, Beta, Sherco, Rieju, Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki, as long as the bike is liquid-cooled.
The TPS is the throttle position sensor on two-strokes with TPI and TBI injection. A damaged sensor can affect how the engine runs. Our reinforced aluminium guard protects it from impact in a fall and fits the 250/300 two-strokes from KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas.
No. The TPS fits two-strokes with TPI injection (KTM and Husqvarna 2018–2023, GasGas 2021–2023), and the TPS2 fits two-strokes with TBI injection (KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas 2024–2026).
The guard covers the rear brake disc on the side where stones, branches and logs hit, and protects it from damage. You fit it on large bolts, and the fixings come in the kit.
Yes. The DG02 covers the KTM EXC 2T and 4T from 2003 to 2026, the Husqvarna TC, FC, TE and FE from 2014–2016 and 2025–2026, the Husaberg TE 2009–2014 and Sherco enduro 2014–2019. For the Sherco 2020–2024 there is the DG06.
The FP01 are stainless steel footpegs for KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas 2024–2026 (TBI two-strokes and four-strokes). They sit 5 mm lower at the rear and 7 mm lower overall, have an enlarged platform and shed mud and soil.
