Technology

3D scanning, CNC cutting, bending and TIG welding in Katowice. 4 mm AlMg3 aluminium, 6 or 8 mm HDPE and 304 stainless steel (8 or 10 mm rod) - every guard for a specific model and year.

3D scan and CNC cutting

Every model starts from a high-resolution 3D scan of the actual motorcycle, and the parts are cut on CNC machines. The guard follows the contour of the frame and engine, and every unit fits identically - no adjusting by eye. It mounts on factory points, with no drilling, bending, welding or other changes to the bike; the kit includes all bolts, washers, nuts, spacers and brackets.

The skid plate bolts to the frame, so on impact the force goes into the frame and not through the bolts into the cases. You can drain the oil without removing the plate, and the bike still sits on a stand with it fitted. A drain hole at the lowest point of the plate lets mud out, and a tab at the top stops mud and stones from getting into the gap between the engine and the plate. The plate covers the underside of the engine and does not cover the radiators, which are on the sides of the bike.

Materials by type of guard

Skid plates: 4 mm AlMg3 aluminium or 6 or 8 mm HDPE. Skid plates with linkage guard: 6 or 8 mm HDPE. Skid plate and pipe guard in one part: 4 mm aluminium, and in the versions with a linkage guard (H and HX) with a 6 mm HDPE layer at the linkage. Pipe guards: 304 stainless steel rod, 8 or 10 mm. Radiator guards and brake disc guards: 4 mm aluminium. TPS guards: aluminium. FP01 footpegs: stainless steel. Fan kits: a SPAL fan with a bracket, a relay and a cable.

AlMg3 (PA11) aluminium, 4 mm

Radiator guards, brake disc guards and some skid plates are made of reinforced AlMg3 (PA11) aluminium, 4 mm thick - an alloy resistant to corrosion, deformation and abrasion. Parts are bent and TIG welded on both sides; brackets are steel and aluminium. TPS guards are also made of aluminium.

AlMg3 is an aluminium alloy with about 3% magnesium, designated EN AW-5754 in the European standard. PA11 is its Polish designation, not the PA11 polyamide plastic. The alloy resists corrosion even in salt water, which is why boats are built from it. The stiff sheet spreads the force of an impact across the whole plate and its mounting points, handles sharp rock edges better than plastic, and is thinner than an HDPE plate, so it leaves more ground clearance. After welding we clean and polish.

HDPE, 6 and 8 mm

Some engine plates are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) - a material lighter than aluminium and very resistant to impact and abrasion. Older models are 6 mm thick, newer ones 8 mm; older ones move to the thicker version over time. The 8 mm HDPE plates are never scored or welded: we heat them and bend them on a press brake in one piece from a single sheet, so they have no weakened spots and, on impact, flex and return to shape instead of passing the energy to the engine. Welding weakens this material: original polyethylene is lost at the weld, and the joint cracks and chips off more easily.

The SP08 plate made of 8 mm HDPE weighs 0.86 kg, and the aluminium SP04 for the same bikes 1.11 kg, which is about 22% less. HDPE has low friction, so the smooth underside slides over logs and rock edges; it damps rock strikes and vibration and does not turn brittle in the cold. On sharp rocks the plastic picks up scratches and gouges over time. Those are working marks, and the plate keeps protecting.

304 stainless steel

Pipe guards are welded from 304 stainless steel rod, 8 or 10 mm depending on the model - very stiff and resistant to weather and corrosion. A single product may combine materials, for example a steel rod with an HDPE plate, and every guard is shaped so that it does not trap mud and stones.

304 steel contains about 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Chromium forms an oxide layer on the surface that protects against rust, so the steel copes well with water, mud and road salt. We use 10 mm rod in the reinforced versions; in bending it is about 2.4 times stiffer than 8 mm rod, because stiffness grows with the fourth power of the diameter.

The expansion chamber of a two-stroke has a shape matched to the engine, so a dent changes how the power comes in. The guard is an open cage of rod: it does not collect stones or mud, and the pipe and the underside of the engine are easy to clean. The X version protects more of the pipe, right up to the bend at the cylinder. We also make stainless steel footpegs, the FP01: 7 mm lower and 5 mm further back than the factory ones, with an enlarged platform that sheds mud.

Aluminium or HDPE

Both plates protect the same parts; they differ in how they behave on impact. HDPE makes sense when weight and sliding over logs matter, aluminium when the plate often hits sharp rock edges. Some products combine both materials: in the PG17 H the plate and the pipe guard are 4 mm aluminium and the linkage guard is 6 mm HDPE.

Fan kits

A model-specific radiator fan kit includes a SPAL fan, a radiator bracket, a relay and a cable with the bike’s original connector, so nothing is cut, neither the loom nor the hoses. The universal kit has its own thermal switch, fuse and wiring and switches the fan on by itself once the coolant passes the set temperature; it suits liquid-cooled bikes and needs about 7 cm between the radiator and the tank. A fan pushes air through the radiator when the bike is standing or crawling, but it does not replace a sound cooling system: coolant, cap and tight hoses.

Testing and production

We have been designing enduro guards since 2016. Every new model is tested by professional riders before it goes on sale. Production is 100% in Poland, in Katowice. We ship by courier to Poland, almost all European Union countries and the United Kingdom; orders from the United States, Canada and Australia are taken by email. All guard types, brands and ordering terms are described on the About us page.
