Skid plate KTM EXC, Husqvarna TE 250/300 2017-2019 – aluminium

In 2020 KTM redesigned the EXC frames, so for model years 2020–2023 there is the SP11, and for older ones, 2008–2016, the SP05. For TBI two-strokes from 2024 there are the SP04 (aluminium) and the SP08 (8 mm HDPE). A lighter plate for the same bikes from 2017–2019 is the SP12 in 6 mm HDPE: it weighs 0.71 kg, while this plate weighs 0.98 kg. For Husqvarna with a linkage guard there is the SP13.

The plate covers the engine cases, starter motor and the clutch and ignition covers from underneath. Without a guard, those parts take the hits on rocks, roots and logs, plus the stones thrown up by your front wheel and by riders ahead of you. A cracked case or cover means an oil leak, which usually ends the ride, and replacing a case means splitting the engine.

A stiff sheet spreads the impact force across the whole plate and its mounting points on the frame, so a rock does not hit the case at a single point.

PA11 is the Polish designation for the alloy AlMg3 (EN AW-5754), aluminium with about 3% magnesium. It resists corrosion even in salt water, which is why boats are built from it. We bend the plate on a press brake and TIG-weld it on both sides. After welding we clean and polish it.

Aluminium copes better with sharp rock edges than plastic, and a 4 mm sheet is thinner than an HDPE plate, so it leaves more ground clearance. If a lower weight matters to you, choose the SP12.

The kit includes the mounting bolts and washers. You bolt the plate to the frame at four points with no drilling and no changes to the bike, so an impact goes into the frame and not through the bolts into the cases. The SP01 works with clutch and ignition cover guards and with the pipe guards for these model years: PG01 (stock OEM exhaust), PG20 (OXA) and PG22 (Fresco).

We design every plate from a 3D scan of the specific bike and cut it on CNC machines in Katowice, Poland. Professional riders test every new model before it goes on sale.
