Radiator guards + fan kit KTM EXC, Husqvarna TPI 17-19 – RG01

This kit is for bikes with TPI injection, not carburettor. Carburettor two-strokes (KTM EXC 250/300, Husqvarna TE 250/300) have the kit “Radiator guards + fan kit KTM EXC, Husqvarna 2T 17-19 – RG01” with a sensor/switch and a fuse. The RG01 guards alone (1.53 kg) can be bought separately. The fan on its own, without guards, is in the fan kit “Radiator fan kit KTM EXC, Husqvarna, GasGas 17-23 – TPI & 4T”. The open frame without a front in these model years is RG02 and RG02 F.

A radiator on an enduro bike is a thin aluminium core with fins. In a fall onto its side the core bends or twists, the channels crack and coolant leaks out. Without coolant the engine overheats quickly, so a punctured radiator usually means being towed home. Besides falls, radiators take the stones thrown up by the riders ahead of you. RG01 covers each radiator at the front and sides, and the internal supports brace against the bike's frame and are fixed to it, so the force of an impact goes into the frame.

At low speed on difficult terrain hardly any air flows through the radiators, while the engine runs at higher revs and with a lot of clutch slipping. The coolant boils and escapes through the overflow. The fan pushes air through the radiator even when you are standing still or crawling along. It does not replace a healthy cooling system: coolant, cap and sealed hoses.

We bend the guards from AlMg3 aluminium sheet (EN AW-5754, PA11), 4 mm thick, and TIG-weld them. After welding we clean and polish them. It is an alloy with about 3% magnesium, used to build boats because it resists corrosion even in salt water. 4 mm sheet is stiff, keeps its shape and stands up well to abrasion. The whole set with the fan weighs 2.03 kg, of which the RG01 guards alone account for 1.53 kg.

The kit contains the RG01 guards, a SPAL fan with the original KTM plug, a fan bracket (mounting), a relay, and screws and rivets. It is a set for both radiators. The factory radiator shrouds come off, because the front is closed. No drilling or changes to the bike are needed.

We design the guards from a 3D scan of the specific bike and cut them on CNC machines in Katowice, Poland. Professional riders test every new model before it goes on sale.
