The standard KTM EXC leaves the factory without a skid plate from model year 2024. For the same models from 2017–2023 (GasGas from 2021) there is the SP03. For the 250/350 four-strokes from 2024 use the SP18.

The plate covers the engine cases, the starter motor, the clutch and ignition covers, the water pump and the lower frame rails up to the footpeg mounts from below. Without a guard these parts take the hits from stones, roots and logs, as well as stones thrown up from the wheels. A cracked case or cover means an oil leak and usually the end of the ride, and replacing an engine case means splitting the engine.

The sheet carries the impact to the whole plate and its mounts on the frame, so a stone does not hit the case at a single point.

PA11 is the Polish designation for the AlMg3 alloy (EN AW-5754), aluminium with about 3% magnesium. It resists corrosion in salt water as well, which is why boats are built from it. We bend the plate on a press brake and TIG-weld it on both sides. After welding we clean and polish it.

Aluminium copes better than plastic with the sharp edges of rocks, and a 4 mm sheet leaves more ground clearance under the engine than a thicker HDPE plate. The plate weighs 1.22 kg.

The kit includes mounting bolts and washers. You bolt the plate to the frame at four points, with no drilling and no changes to the bike, so the force of an impact goes into the frame and not through the bolts into the cases. You can drain the oil without removing the plate, and you can put the bike on a stand with the plate fitted. The SP19 works together with clutch and ignition cover guards.

We design every plate from a 3D scan of the specific bike and cut it on CNC machines in Katowice, Poland. Professional riders test every new model before it goes on sale.
