The standard KTM EXC leaves the factory without a skid plate from model year 2024. For the same models from 2017–2023 there is the SP02 (aluminium) and the SP15 (6 mm HDPE), and for Husqvarna and GasGas with a linkage guard the SP14. For the 450/500 four-strokes from 2024 use the SP19.

The plate covers the engine cases, the starter motor, the clutch and ignition covers, the water pump and the lower frame rails up to the footpeg mounts from below. Without a guard these parts take the hits on rocks, roots and logs, as well as stones thrown up by your front wheel and by the wheels of bikes riding ahead of you. A cracked case or cover means an oil leak and usually the end of the ride off-road, and replacing an engine case means splitting the engine.

The rigid sheet spreads the force of an impact across the whole plate and its mounting points on the frame, so a stone does not hit the case at a single point.

PA11 is the Polish designation for the AlMg3 alloy (EN AW-5754), aluminium with about 3% magnesium. It resists corrosion even in salt water, which is why boats are built from it. We bend the plate on a press brake and TIG-weld it on both sides. After welding we clean and polish it.

Aluminium copes better than plastic with the sharp edges of rocks, and a 4 mm sheet leaves more ground clearance under the engine than a thicker HDPE plate. The plate weighs 1.14 kg.

The kit includes mounting bolts and washers. You bolt the plate to the frame at four points, with no drilling and no changes to the bike, so in an impact the force goes into the frame and not through the bolts into the cases. You can drain the oil without removing the plate, and you can put the bike on a stand with the plate fitted. The SP18 works together with clutch and ignition cover guards.

We design every plate from a 3D scan of the specific bike and cut it on CNC machines in Katowice, Poland. Professional riders test every new model before it goes on sale.
